Epidemic is inspired by Sophocles' Antigone. Fragments from Euripides' lost tragedy Antigone and Bacchae are also used in this exploration, where Antigone's choice to bury her brother, disobeying Creon's authority, causes the spreading of positive madness to the city of Thebes. We are exploring the relationship between Antigone and Dionysus and the dangerous but liberating spreading of madness that is affecting people as quickly and powerfully as fire. Fire rituals from allover the world are being used in order to stage this reading of Antigone. Epidemic is a mainly devised piece; a new and bold reading of Antigone.
